Addressing Mental Illness in Light of Islamic Teachings

Mental Illness: A Defeat of the Will – Understanding the Root Cause

Mental illness or psychological disorder often begins when the human will collapses in the face of sudden or overwhelming life events—such as divorce, failure, heartbreak, or the loss of a loved one.

When we’re hit by these unexpected shocks, the mind sometimes chooses to escape rather than face the pain. It hides in distractions like:

  • Daydreaming

  • Overeating

  • Smoking or drinking

  • Excessive entertainment or isolation

These are not solutions—they are simply escapes from the confrontation your mind is trying to avoid.

 You’re left with two choices:

  1. Confront, adapt, and accept the new painful reality.

  2. Run, suppress, and escape, which only deepens the suffering.

True healing doesn’t come from avoiding pain—it comes from facing it.

Medication, in this context, isn’t just pills or therapy. It’s the willful adaptation to new circumstances, the strength to accept reality, and the courage to move forward with faith and awareness.

In this video (or book), I explore how you can protect your mental health by:

  • Understanding the root of emotional pain

  • Strengthening your will through faith and clarity

  • Reconnecting with Allah (SWT) as a source of inner power and resilience

  • Embracing change with wisdom instead of fear
