We all carry a quiet struggle inside. Sometimes it is anger that bursts out, sometimes envy that eats us from within, and sometimes pride that blinds us. In Islam, this inner self is called the Nafs. Left unchecked, it pushes us toward habits that damage our hearts and relationships.

This course is like a guided journey where you sit with a teacher, reflect on your own story, and slowly learn how to heal. It combines Islamic wisdom with modern psychology, so the lessons feel both spiritual and full of modern practicality.

Each step involves noticing your patterns, identifying the roots of your struggles, and practicing remedies that bring peace. By the end, you will feel lighter, more grounded, and closer to Allah.

Learning Outcomes

By joining this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify the everyday struggles of the Nafs and how they show up in daily life.
  • Recognize anger, envy, arrogance, greed, and other hidden challenges within yourself.
  • Use simple self-check tools to understand your personal struggles.
  • Practice muraqabah (self-reflection), mindfulness, and guided repentance in your routine.
  • Integrate Islamic wisdom with modern techniques such as CBT and emotional regulation.
  • Build habits that bring clarity, balance, and stronger relationships.
  • Strengthen your bond with Allah while shaping a healthier character.

What You Will Learn

This course has six modules. Each one tells a part of the story of the Nafs and helps you control the nafs. You move from basic awareness to deep self-reflection, and finally create a personal plan you can live by.

Module 1: Introduction to the Nafs

We start with the big picture. What is the Nafs? Why does it matter to purify it? We will explore the three states of the Nafs mentioned in the Quran and Hadith.

You will also see how psychology explains the self, emotions, and behavior. This opening session helps you see that your struggles are human, and that both faith and science offer guidance.

Module 2: Anger and Taunting

We all know how one moment of anger can ruin hours, even years of peace. This session takes you into the danger of unchecked anger.

Through Islamic teachings, you will learn the Prophet’s (PBUH) methods of cooling the fire of anger. Side by side, you will try out modern tools like breathing and thought reframing.

By the end, you will see anger not as a monster but as something you can manage with patience and respect.

Module 3: Backbiting, Slander, and Grudges

Some wounds are silent. Gossip, slander, and grudges quietly eat away at our souls. In this module, you will hear stories of how these habits destroy trust and peace.

You will explore the Quran and Hadith that remind us to guard our tongue and heart. Along with that, you will practice forgiveness exercises, journaling, and letting go. This is where you learn that peace is not just what you say, but also what you choose to carry inside.

Module 4: Avarice and Materialism

It is easy to get lost in the race for money and things. This session uncovers how greed blinds us and weakens our bond with Allah. Together, we will reflect on verses and hadith that warn against loving dunya too much.

Psychology offers insights into consumerism, revealing why desire never ends. Through gratitude practices and small acts of charity, you will discover the freedom that comes from living with less and finding contentment in more meaningful ways.

Module 5: Envy, Arrogance, and Ostentation

These are the poisons that often hide in the heart. Envy makes us resentful, arrogance makes us blind, and showing off makes our deeds hollow. Through stories and reminders of death and humility, you will see their roots clearly.

With guidance, you will practice gratitude and self-compassion to replace these toxins. By the end, you will feel lighter, more sincere, and more focused on Allah’s pleasure rather than people’s praise.

Module 6: Integration and Action Plan

The final step is bringing it all together. You will look back at your journey, reflect on what changed, and map out a personal action plan. Daily muraqabah, dua, journaling, and mindfulness will become part of your life toolkit.

In group discussions, you will share struggles of Nafs and learn from others. This is where the course becomes not just an experience, but a framework you can carry forward.

Course Format and Activities

This course is designed to feel alive. You will not just sit and listen, but engage. Each session mixes short talks, Quran and Hadith reflections, small group discussions, and self-assessment.

You will do mindfulness exercises, guided meditation, and journaling. The aim is that you walk away with not only knowledge, but with a change you can feel in your heart.
