Module 1

Understanding the Soul: Why We Are Not at Peace

Focus: Diagnosis before purification

  • What is the soul (nafs and qalb) in Islam
  • Why inner unrest exists even with worship
  • The Qur’anic foundation of tazkiyah
  • Why happiness cannot exist without purification

Outcome:
Students understand that inner disturbance is a signal for healing, not failure.

Module 2

Happiness or a Good Life

  • The difference between temporary happiness and a good life (ḥayāh ṭayyibah)
  •  Why this world was not created to provide constant comfort
  •  How unrealistic expectations of dunya create restlessness and disappointment
  •  Why inner peace comes from meaning, not circumstances

Outcome:
Students begin to release false expectations of this world and shift their focus toward inner peace and a truly good life.

Module 3

The Struggle of the Nafs: From Resistance to Alignment

Focus: Understanding inner struggle correctly

  • Types of the nafs
  • Why resistance is not always disobedience
  • The difference between discipline and harshness
  • How to guide the soul instead of fighting it

Key Qur’an:

وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِ… (79:40)

Outcome:
Students stop self-blame and begin gentle inner reform.

Module 4

Purifying Intentions: The Hidden Door to a Good Life

Focus: Inner sincerity as the foundation of peace

  • Why intentions shape emotional wellbeing
  • Hidden riyaaʾ and people-pleasing
  • Exhaustion caused by misaligned goals
  • Rebuilding life aims around Allah

Key Hadith:
“Actions are judged by intentions.”

Reading Focus:
Imam al-Ghazālī – Sincerity & Intention (Iḥyāʾ)

Outcome:
Students feel lighter, calmer, and less pressured.

Module 5

Letting Go of the World Without Leaving It

Focus: Detachment of the heart, not withdrawal

  • True meaning of zuhd
  • How attachment destroys peace
  • Living responsibly without being owned by dunya
  • Emotional balance in success and loss

Key Qur’an:
لِكَيْلَا تَأْسَوْا عَلَىٰ مَا فَاتَكُمْ…  (57:23)

Outcome:
Students experience emotional freedom and balance.

From Purification to Peace: Living with a Sound Heart

Focus: Turning tazkiyah into a life system

  • What is qalb salīm
  • Daily soul-care practices
  • Weekly heart check-ins
  • Preparing the heart for Ramadan
  • Sustaining inner peace long-term

Outcome:
Students leave with a clear, sustainable inner framework for peace and a good life.
